As a community, Rockville Centre was settled for
200 years when its citizens voted for incorporation in 1893. They were
dissatisfied with county services and wanted better roads and public
safety, so they opted for independent status. |

The diocese, formed in 1957, covers 1,222 square miles in
Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The diocese has 134 parishes in 119
towns, serving approx-imately 1.5 million Catholics. (The total
population in both counties is approximately 3 million). |

The current Cathedral, completed in 1935, underwent a major
renovation in 1981 and 1982. Today, the Cathedral serves the people of
Rockville Centre and is also the seat for the Diocese of Rockville
Centre, encompassing Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island, New
York. |

The Rockville Centre Guild for the
Arts is a non-profit volunteer organization making music, theater,
dance, and literature affordable and accessible.The Guild presents
performances by professional and local artists.

through the presentation of world class artists and through arts
education programs for young people |

The West Islip Symphony Orchestra is
presented in concert by the West Islip Chamber Orchestra Society, Inc.
which was founded in 1979. The concerts are made possible through the
contributions of private individuals as well as public and private
grants. |

Founded by Harry Chapin in 1979, the Long Island
Philharmonic provides music and musical education that entertains,
excites, and inspires the Long Island community. |

Now in its 51st season, the Queens
Symphony Orchestra is the oldest and largest professional
arts organization in Queens, presenting 15 to 25 concerts a year at
the Queensborough Community College Performing Arts Center. |

As we start our twenty-fourth season we
thank the Massapequa Public School District for hosting our concerts
and rehearsals. |

Founded by Paul Rudoff in 1969, Gemini Youth
Orchestras provide young musicians the opportunity to study and
perform under professional direction and guidance. Many Gemini
graduates perform in orchestras and chamber ensembles in this country
and abroad. |

The Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra, founded in
1984 in the Village of Mineola, plays a summer concert series and
holiday concerts. The orchestra has been an integral part of many
ceremonies at St. John's University including a Christmas Holiday
Concert with the resident one-hundred voice mixed chorus and also
maintains affiliations with Nassau Community College. |

Leggz offers classes in a variety of styles—from
traditional ballet, pointe, tap and jazz to hip-hop, modern dance,
Irish step, break dancing, yoga and theatre jazz. Leggz annually
presents the full-length Nutcracker ballet with the live music of The
South Shore Symphony Orchestra, featuring Leggz dancers and
professional guest artists. |
