Susan Hytken, Principal Concertmaster of the South Shore Symphony, has performed throughout the United States and Europe.
A native of Eureka, California, she resides in New York City. She began piano lessons at age four with her mother and violin lessons at age eight with her father. At thirteen she made her concerto debut with the College of the Redwoods Chamber Orchestra. She graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy, San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Mannes College of Music. Her principal teachers have been Madeline Schatz, Renata Knific, Isadore Tinkleman and Felix Galimir and Joey Corpus.
Ms. Hytken is in great demand as a professional free-lance violinist throughout the New York metropolitan region and appears regularly with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, having also recently served as concertmaster at the invitation of conductor David Gilbert. She has also been co-concertmaster of the Orchestra of the Bronx and the Bronx Opera.
Ms. Hytken teaches violin and chamber music at the Spence School in New York City. She spends her summers performing in the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra.
