Bruce Reed, Tenor

Bruce Reed is known for his mellifluous voice and poetic style, and is increasingly performing more of the fuller lyric tenor roles. During the past tew seasons, Mr. Reed has added to his repertoire such roles asAshenbach/Hotel Porter in Britten's Death in Venice, Nick in Fanciulla del West. Tiberge in Massenet's rarely-performed Le Portrait de Manon, Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, William Marshall in Blitzstein's Regina, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Sam Polk in Floyd's Susannah. MacDuff in Verdi's MacBeth, Don Jose in Carmen and Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana with the TeatroNacional in Santo Domingo; the Glimmergiass, Florida Grand, Anchorage. Palm Beach. Indianapolis, Gold Coast and Utah Festival Opera Companies; and with the Monterey, South Bend, Valdosla, Ocala, Kunming (China) and Seoul (Korea) Symphony Orchestras.

Previously, Mr. Reed was a mainstay with the New York City Opera Company for nine seasons following his debut with the New York City Opera as Camilla de Rosilion opposite Beverly Sills in The Merry Widow. He was especially known for the roles of Tamino in The Magic Flute, Fenton in both Falstaff and The Merry Wives of Windsor, and Tonio in The Daughter of the Regiment Mr. Reed has appeared with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Diego Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Opera Company of Boston, Pittsburgh Opera, and the Canadian Opera as well as with the Cleveland, Arizona, Virginia, Indianapolis, Mobile. Palm Beach, Tampa, Rochester, Memphis, Syracuse, Orlando, and Shreveport Opera Companies, Central City Opera, and the Spoleto Festival (USA). Mr. Reed made his European debut at the Spoleto Festival (Italy) in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and was leading tenor at the Landestheater Liuz in Austria for several seasons. He also performed with the Zurich Opera and other major European opera houses and symphony orchestras.

In concert, Mr. Reed has appeared as soloist with the Buffalo, Rochester, Evansville, Florida, and Dayton Philharmonic Orchestras; with the Syracuse, Mississippi, Monterey, and Savannah Symphonies; and with the Boca and Ocean City Pops Orchestras. He has appeared with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center both at Alice Tully Hall and the Kennedy Center under such batons as Julius Rudel, Christopher Keene, and Christian Badea.

Bruce Reed currently makes his home in South Orange, New Jersey with his wife, soprano Victoria Atwater and their two-year-old daughter. Vivien Rose. Mr. Reed is a native of Clifton Springs, New York and completed his opera training at the acclaimed Tri-Cities Opera in Binghamton, New York, where he performed numerous leading tenor roles.
